PUBLIC HEALTH

Every day, Urban Indian Organizations (UIOs) provide essential public health services at the community level.  They deliver vital programs in cities by controlling COVID-19, treating and preventing HIV and STIs, screening for cancer, immunizing children and adults, promoting healthy relationships, and addressing many other public health priorities.

The community-centered, culturally competent programs that UIOs provide are critical for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) people living in urban spaces.  Furthermore, investing in these services will be vital for expanding health equity across the country, and meeting Healthy People 2030 goals for all people.

NCUIH is dedicated to highlighting the work UIOs put in to improving their communities’ health and connecting each UIO to resources to expand their capacity to address public health needs.
