The National Council of Urban Indian Health (NCUIH) is currently partnering with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on several initiatives.
One initiative aims to identify barriers and solutions for funeral directors, medical examiners, and/or coroners to appropriately classify American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) on death certificates. It is critical that this information is captured to ensure accurate morbidity data is being shared at the state and national level and appropriate resources and services are provided.
Another initiative is focused on assessing Urban Indian Health Program capacity to use epidemiology (data collection, analysis, and interpretation) to identify environmental health issues impacting AI/AN children. Findings from this assessment will be used to identify UIHP’s needs for future resource development and information sharing.
