The National Council of Urban Indian Health envisions a nation where comprehensive personal and public health services are available and accessible to American Indians and Alaska Natives living in urban centers throughout the United States.
A 501(c)(3) organization, NCUIH represents 43 urban Indian health providers (UIOs) who ensure access to culturally competent health care and social services for about 78 percent of the AI/AN people who live in U.S. metropolitan areas.
Historically, less than 1 percent of the Indian Health Service (IHS) budget is committed to this population. NCUIH works to raise awareness of and eliminate this disparity.
NCUIH is strategically positioned to be the voice of the urban Indian population when meeting with federal agencies. It is a major hub of information and resources for many like-minded groups.
