Funding for Prescription Drug Abuse - $5 million

Additional funding for SAMHSA is needed to address the growing rate of prescription drug abuse in Indian Country. Abuse of prescription drugs has steadily increased in Indian Country especially among youth and young adults. Past year of prescription painkillers now ranks second - only behind marijuana-as the nations most prevalent illegal drug problem.
