Short Abstract:
Tribes in the United States have sustained vibrant and supportive communities for millennia, with time-tested traditions and values reinforcing strong family and kinship systems, sound tribal governance, and good stewardship. These values are best expressed in the accomplishments of the policy of Indian self-determination, the most successful Indian policy in the history of the Union. When tribes are able to operate as governments responsible for their resources, the resulting achievements have consistently been improved efficiency and competency.
