Short Abstract:
Urban Indian Health Organizations are not only a source of unique and culturally appropriate health care for the urban Indian population they also serve as a critical cultural link for urban Indians struggling for identity. They are also an indispensable partner in providing services to families in their local communities across the country. Far from duplicating the health services offered by CHCs, Urban Indian Health Organizations have a proven track record of providing quality care and targeted outreach to vulnerable American Indians and Alaska Natives living in urban areas. Losing Title V would undermine the Urban Indian Health Organizations ability to retain its high quality and culturally appropriate services to the wildly underserved while at the same time weakening the local public health safety net.
