Abstract:

The Earthstar Project, located in St. Paul, MN, is an urban Indian mental health organization that reaches out into the community through various projects. Two programs were developed to provide support and other services to the elderly and to preserve and pass on oral native history: the Elders Programs Services and the Elders Lodge. The Elders Programs Services coordinates services for the elderly. It also organizes and arranges for elders to make field trips to American Indian cultural events. Intertribal and intergenerational educational programs are enriched through the availability of craft supplies, books, videotapes, and games equipment. The Elders Lodge serves as housing designed to encourage elderly participation in the community
